Temagami Snowshoe Lake Occurrence

The Snowshoe Lake Occurrence

Bennet (1978) describes a small pit located in the hornblende-quartz diorite phase of the Iceland Lake Pluton on the north side of the Lake Temagami access road approximately 1.6 km west of Snowshoe Lake in southern Briggs township (approximately UTM 581,130E, 5,203,570N). The mineralization, consisting mainly of disseminated chalcopyrite and patches of malachite, appears to be associated with inclusions of mafic metavolcanics in epidotized quartz diorite.

A selected grab sample assayed by the Mineral Research Branch of the Ontario Division of Mines returned 2.74 g/t Au, 27.43 g/t Ag (0.08 oz/ton Au, 0.8 oz/ton Ag) and 0.96% copper with trace lead, zinc, and nickel. The reported extent of the mineralization was minimal; it did not appear to exceed a few square feet (Bennet, 1978). Sturdy Mines completed five diamond drill-holes in the area in 1971. Drill hole 71-SB-6 returned 0.12% Cu and 0.05 oz/ton Au over a core length of 4 ft. Drill hole 71-SB-8 was drilled beneath Mark Lake, approximately 300 m north of the showing and returned 0.17% Cu and trace Au over 3.5 ft.

Rock grab samples collected by G. Chitaroni in 1999 returned values ranging from 0.03 g/t to 13.54 g/t Au, 0.5 g/t to 16.1 g/t Ag; 0.007% Co, 0.57% to 1.28% Cu, and 0.002% to 0.057% Ni (MDI31L13NW00021). A surface grab sample collected by Adroit in 2007 returned 6.79 g/t Au (Parry, 2007).
